On these two-hour walks you'll hear of Washington Irving, author of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," Revolutionary War veterans, wealthy industrialists, and others. We will also introduce you to some of the cemetery art and architecture on our grounds, and we almost always step into a 100-year-old underground vault.

Evening guided tours

It's always more fun in the dark!

Cemetery historian Jim Logan leads these popular evening lantern tours of the cemetery. After paying respects to Washington Irving, author of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," we visit a Revolutionary War militia captain, the cemetery's Revolutionary War monument, a notorious counterfeiter, a noted spiritualist, a soaring gothic monument of a wealthy merchant, industrialists Andrew Carnegie and William Rockefeller, and others. We will also introduce you to some of the cemetery art and architecture on our grounds, and we almost always step into a 100-year-old underground vault. Our two-hour evening tours cover more than a mile on foot, so wear comfortable shoes.

Don't see a date that fits your schedule? Email us at tours@sleepyhollowcemetery.org and we will do our best to work with your schedule. We're happy to schedule groups of any size, large or small. We offer discounted rates to groups of 15 or more.

On your own

Walk or drive our 90 acre grounds during visiting hours, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm daily. Entrance is free. Please note that tour buses and other large vehicles are not permitted beyond the small parking area at our south gate.

Purchase at the cemetery office during business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4 pm, closed major holidays) or at the Philipsburg Manor museum shop across the street from the cemetery’s south gate.
