Night Visions ~ Seeing the Unseen Beauty of the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

Saturday, September 18, 5:00 pm to midnight.

Join night photographer Gabriel Biderman for this unique opportunity to capture the historic Sleepy Hollow Cemetery from dusk until midnight.

By working at night and with a tripod we will go beyond the fleeting moments of time and explore the images that can be created when you expose for seconds, minutes, and even hours with a single exposure.

This 7 hour workshop will go into detail on how to meter and process your long exposures using either film or digital capture.  We will also focus on light painting, star trails, and bring out the ghostly images of the cemetery.

Gabriel's images have been featured in exhibits worldwide and published in print and on the web.  He was honored to be featured in Eric Renner's Pinhole Photography - Rediscovering a Historic Technique.

Seeking Shadows: An Autumn Adventure in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

Saturday, October 9, 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Hudson River photographer Joseph Squillante leads this four hour photography Walkshop® through the Victorian-era section of Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. On this walk we will encounter a great many and varied qualities of natural light--from day into twilight and then dusk as night moves in all around. Shadows will abound and we will pay special attention to them as they extend over the land, offering greater dimension to your photographs.

You will extend the reach of the “normal” exposure to brighten shadows and turn daylight into darkness. We will push the limits of your camera through over and under exposure, as well as working with the basics of aperture for depth of field and shutter for control of motion. In addition to landscape photography, we will create portraits of angelic statues, architectural studies of grand mausoleums, still lifes, close-up details, and perhaps steal a peek inside a crypt with a long exposure changing darkness into light. Let’s discover this magical place together.

Please bring five of your favorite photographs to review and share with the group. A camera with manual controls is required and a tripod is recommended.

Class limit: 12.

Tuition: $60.

Rain date: Sunday, October 10, 2010.
